Estimation of copula-based semiparametric time series models

چکیده
This paper studies the estimation of a class of copula-based semiparametric stationary Markov models. These models are characterized by nonparametric marginal distributions and parametric copula functions, while the copulas capture all the scale-free temporal dependence of the processes. Simple estimators of the marginal distribution and the copula parameter are provided, and their asymptotic properties are established under easily verifiable conditions. These results are used to obtain root-n consistent and asymptotically normal estimators of important features of the transition distribution such as the (nonlinear) conditional moments and conditional quantiles. The semiparametric conditional quantile estimators are automatically monotonic across quantiles, which is attractive for portfolio conditional value-atrisk calculations. r 2005 Elsevier B.V. متن کاملEstimation and Model Selection of Semiparametric Copula-Based Multivariate Dynamic Models Under Copula Misspecification∗
Recently Chen and Fan (2003a) introduced a new class of semiparametric copula-based multivariate dynamic (SCOMDY) models. A SCOMDY model specifies the conditional mean and the conditional variance of a multivariate time series parametrically (such as VAR, GARCH), but specifies the multivariate distribution of the standardized innovation semiparametrically as a parametric copula evaluated at non...
متن کاملSemiparametric Bootstrap Prediction Intervals in time Series
One of the main goals of studying the time series is estimation of prediction interval based on an observed sample path of the process. In recent years, different semiparametric bootstrap methods have been proposed to find the prediction intervals without any assumption of error distribution. In semiparametric bootstrap methods, a linear process is approximated by an autoregressive process. The...
متن کاملEfficient estimation of parameters in marginals in semiparametric multivariate models Preliminary and Incomplete – Please do not cite
Recent literature on semiparametric copula models focused on the situation when the marginals are specified nonparametrically and the copula function is given a parametric form. For example, this setup is used in Chen, Fan and Tsyrennikov (2006) [Efficient Estimation of Semiparametric Multivariate Copula Models, JASA] who focus on the efficient estimation of copula parameters. We consider a rev...
متن کاملEstimating and Evaluating the Predictive Abilities of Semiparametric Multivariate Models with Application to Risk Management
In this paper we propose a new semiparametric procedure for estimating multivariate models with conditioning variables. The semiparametric model is based on the parametric conditional copula of Patton (2005a) and nonparametric conditional marginals. To avoid the curse of dimensionality in the estimation of the latter, we propose a dimension reduction technique. The marginals are estimated using...
